TOURISM in SAN BARONTO
San Baronto is a fraction of Lamporecchio and it is situated in the naturalistic complex of Montalbano, amid culture and nature, where beyond to the beautiful walks one can visit the various monuments, like to the Abbey of San Baronto dating back to the VII century and the neo-classic church of Santo Stefano.
The territory of Lamporecchio comprises also the marsh of Fucecchio, two naturalistic jewels in Tuscany.
In the High Middle Ages this graceful citizen tied its name San Baronto to the passage of the Saint and therefore to the birth of the monachism.
Just after the year 1000 San Baronto is mentioned as a feud of the 'vescovado di Pistoia' and until the half of the XIII century, the diocesan curia of Pistoia guarantees the control.
They followed years of fights and violent disputes that they see been involved Lucca, Pistoia and Florence and just this last one it annexes the territories in 1531, shortly before the birth of the Granducato di Toscana.
In 1774, at the time of the large territorial reorder decided by Peter Leopoldo di Lorena, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Lamporecchio comes inserted in the "comunitas" and the 'podesteria' of Serravalle, from which it is detached in 1810.

The Brigidini of Lamporecchio
People tell that the Brigidini are been born from an error in the kitchen, but all know that they have made the fortune of Lamporecchio.
The so-called "Brigidini" are simply a cake, or better a special 'trastullo' that is found on the stalls, in all the fairs or the country villages festivities in Tuscany, that you can look at when freshly cooked, one by one, with the typical shapes of a "cialda".
It is just in Lamporecchio, Tuscany where these typical yellow particular 'dolcetti' of the province of Pistoia are been born and the legend tells that the nuns of a convent have invented them, by mistake. The brigidino originated from an error of suor Brigida who got confused while she prepared the paste of wafers.
The sisters, in order not to waste the compound, thought well to add some of aniseeds, to render it more tasty.
It was therefore so that in Lamporecchio this special "trastullo" originated and become destined to represent a tradition, giving life and support to many craftsmen, who still nowadays are specialized in the production of the brigidino.
